NBHS Monthly Program Meeting

New Brighton Historical Society member, Carol Fedeles, will share photos of New Brighton’s past.

Join us for our upcoming monthly program meeting, “A Pictorial History of New Brighton.” This month’s program will be presented by Carol Fedeles, a member of our historical society.

She will speak about the history and development of New Brighton, while showing various old and interesting photos of the town. It will be an enjoyable evening of reminiscing, and all are welcome to attend.

All meetings are held at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 115 North Mercer Avenue in New Brighton at 7:00 PM unless otherwise noted. Visitors are always welcome and refreshments will be served.

Fire & Ice Festival

The New Brighton Historical Society will again be a proud participant in the Fire & Ice Festival, so stop by this free public event and say hello!

We’ll be there selling historical materials including books and other items to benefit the restoration of the Irish-Townsend House.

See New Brighton come alive with holiday decorations and festivities for the whole family including:

• Shows featuring fire-dancers and fire-breathers

• Ice-skating on the iceless/synthetic rink

• Horse-drawn sleigh rides

• Ice Bar – enjoy adult spirits served at an ice-carved bar (ages 21+)

Monthly Meeting

Featuring a presentation by Bryan Fabyanic on Grove Cemetery

Bryan Fabyanic will take us back in time with his talk on the historic Grove Cemetery, one of the oldest in Beaver County. He will provide interesting facts about the lovely cemetery and the special monuments built on the 61 acres. Bryan will also mention the many notable early settlers and founders of New Brighton that are buried on the grounds.

It should be an informative and enjoyable program, and all are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Monthly Meeting

Featuring a presentation by Heinz History Center’s Jim Haller

Mr. Haller is a member of the Heinz History Center's Ambassador Outreach Program. He is an avid student of the game of baseball and believes "baseball is still our national pastime and the greatest game in the world." He will present the details of the Pirates organization and recollect announcer, Bob Prince calling the games on the radio.

Mr. Haller will tell stories about the outstanding Pirates players, and his vast collection of Pirates players baseball cards will be displayed. This will be a "walk down memory lane" for many baseball fans.

The Arrival of the First Slaves to the New World and Their Journey to Western Pennsylvania is a story that follows the arrival of the first slave ship and explores the diverse and dangerous routes that were taken by them to attain their freedom. Visitors are always welcomed to the meetings.

Easter Bunny Giveaway

The New Brighton Community Life Committee will be giving away free stuffed Easter bunnies and candy on Saturday, April 16. The drive-thru event will start at 11:00 AM in the Fischer’s New Brighton Foodland parking lot on Ninth Street. The event will continue until 1:00 PM or until all bunnies have been distributed.
